Who Am I?
I am a Director and Screenwriter born in Tijuana, Mexico. I moved to the United States of America when I was six years old where I was exposed to a country where I thought I would never fit in. Thankfully, I would be accustomed to the states and be able to speak to fellow students. I am currently attending California State University, Los Angeles where I will be graduating in the Class of 2024 with a B.A. in Television, Film, and Media Studies.
I always loved to draw characters and worlds. I always saw that as my career choice when I was younger. “I want to draw and make comic books,” I told myself. However, my career choice would change when my cousin Ivan asked me, “Hey Sebastian, do you want to make a film together?”
The film my cousin Ivan and I shot was a very special project because that was the moment I knew that filmmaking was my career goal. I was conflicted with being an artist and being a filmmaker but I asked myself, “Is this more fun than drawing?” I saw my artwork as being constant and not progressing. I decided to create short films and videos with my friends and family, and I found so much more joy and fun doing films than drawing. That was when everything changed for me and I continue to be the filmmaker that I want to be to this day.
Who is CameraHead?
CameraHead is my mascot. It is a character that is a representation of myself and what I love to do, which is make films. The character started from an art class in community college where our final project was creating a drawing or painting that represents us. I had three ideas in my head, “I am from Mexico, I love rock n’ roll music, and I love filmmaking.” These are things that I love and make me who I am. I loved creating this character and I thought from that project that I would not use him again. Two years later, I had the idea of what would my logo for my projects be. I remembered this drawing and I decided to come back to it. I settled on the name CameraHead and my logo has finally been found. CameraHead will stick around for a long, long time.
